White Sand sits on Ao Kao Beach — one of the few stretches of coastline in the Gulf of Thailand that has remained genuinely undeveloped. No beach clubs, no jet skis, no high-rises. Twenty-five private villas among the palms, each with its own rooftop terrace and a choice of sea or pool view.
The range of facilities here is, by island standards, unusually complete: a beachfront restaurant, swimming pool, spa, two tennis courts, a fully equipped gym, free fibre internet, kayaking and reef snorkelling in partnership with Coral Gardeners Thailand.
Guests tend to rate us well. We think that's mostly the beach.
Koh Mak is a family-owned island with no car ferry — which keeps traffic, and noise, to a minimum. For over a decade, the island's community has prioritised environmental responsibility: waste reduction programmes, coral conservation, and a commitment to low-carbon tourism that goes well beyond a few recycling bins.
The Sunday Times named it one of the world's top undiscovered islands. It has since been discovered — but only just. If you have been to the larger Thai islands and found them too much, Koh Mak will make immediate sense.

The island is flat, largely car-free and easy to explore by bicycle. Beyond the resort: Thai cooking classes, reef snorkelling and freediving with Thai Ocean Academy, kayaking, coral pottery, tie dye, Muay Thai, a local history museum, disc golf and a weekly volunteer beach clean. Enough to fill ten days without once feeling rushed — or pressured to fill them at all.
